Zav's Betting system Hmm, seems someone already put a thread up on betting, but with a house system. Mine would be between players, and thus I shall open a new thread. The mechanics Basically, when two players fight, at the screen where we choose which deck to play, there is an part of the screen that will have a betting/gambling/wager GUI. It will allow players to bet money from 1 gold onwards. If Player A types/clicks a button that says x gold, Player B can do one of the following, with the respective results:
Optionally,The GAME(TFW) takes 3% of all total winnings, rounded down. If the total bets are 4 gold, TFW takes 0 gold, if the total bets are 34 gold(17 each), TFW takes 1 gold. At 66 gold bet, its still 1 gold taxed, and 100 gold bet is nicely at 3 gold taxed. The Economy Firstly, the betting is a fun thing. Bet one or two bucks, ya may get some extra moolah here and there. Adds tension and all that stuff. The reason I don't agree with the house betting, is that it INJECTS money into the game economy. I assume TFW people know about game economy and stuff like that, and such a thing that can potentially inject so much cash into the economy would possibly wreck havoc. You can get insane amounts of gold relative to the current normal methods to get free gold. Also, it’s wide open to abuse. So, with this player vs player method, the money stays in the game. How about letting others bet with each other? Again, its open to game fixing. I would rather not implement it. About the % cut, it will actually reduce the amount in the economy and TFW happily will take bits of the economy back. Maybe they can take it and put it into a lotto(hmm, new thread to type out... DIBS ON THIS!) or smth, but yea. Just an option that benefits the game company. It wont effect most of us who will be playing for small bets, and serious betters/players who like to go big or use it as a form of revenue generation will be taxed a small sum. Alternatively, it could be 5%, and a minimum of 1 gold, which makes betting serious, and most will bet a minimum of 10 gold. Critical Look at Possible Problems (do post any you can foresee!!!) There could be ways to cheat, either via program manipulation or something, so TFW will have to get good people to code this. Betting may cause some players, especially newer ones some frustration as they start losing gold left and right. Also there’s some who will bet compulsively. Besides a cap/limit , I don't know how to handle this. I hope to come up with more suggestions on this forums, will there be a suggestion forum(non-card) coming up any time soon? One's regarding the one flashpoint made about "leavers". Another that builds on this thread's idea and what not. Shameless Plug: If ya like my post, and have spare cards/gold you don't want, throw it my way! |

This sounds fine... but the reason I suggested a "house" betting system in the other thread (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1167&p=5678#p5678) was because there really doesn't seem to be much motivation for anyone to make a bet, unless someone else makes a foolish bet first (i.e. 50 gold on themself even though no one has placed any bets). |

Quote: I like that we can place bets on who's going to win, but I think we need to do something to encourage this activity. Quote: And if you're the only one betting, at least you have someone to bet against. I must have read those two sentences wrongly. :S I dont think betting x gold on your self is foolish, after all, if you are confident on winning, why not? We are already betting our ratings when we play a rated game againts a player similar to us. (is there an unrated game option?) If me and you are playing, and I wish to bet 10 gold, you can choose to believe it foolish and bet 10 too, to take the supposedly easy earnings. A fool and his gold is soon parted right? Of course, it could be that I am atcually good enough to be the last one standing. And thus, the betting goes on. Also, betting againts the house is also betting on yourself... So I'm not sure if i understood the word foolish in this sense. |
