If you cast Ascent on Tangler, it vanishes rather than returning to caster's hand.
Make Ascent so that the targeted creature returns to caster's hand and it will be more useful/fair.

No, tangler doesn't go back to your hand because you don't control it. So you should be able to return it to your hand as caster is what I'm saying

while returning uncontrolled to nowhere doesnt sound particularly unbalanced, if you gained control of a creature temporarily it would be a mess.
