Hey there, I have a problem with the program. It launches and updates just fine, but when I try to log in, I immediately get an error that says TheFarWilds.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. It's happened everytime I tried to start the program now, and I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks!

There should be a file called FarWilds.log in the helpers directory. Can you mail it to me. jed @ this domain.
Thanks.

Hello again, I sent the email, just a quick update to say that even after today's update of the program, I still can't log in as the game crashes. Yep. If you haven't received the email of the log, just give a hollar here and I'll send it again. Thanks!

What did you mean by a clean install? I tried to reinstall the program and update it again, but the problem still persists. Also, I've never been able to play the game as I've never been able to actaully log in. The program runs smoothly until it requests my user name and password, then once I hit 'log in', it shows me the error message and needs to close down. The other buttons like 'create account' and all work fine. It's just the moment I hit enter or 'log in', the program closes.

Really still no idea why it's doing it. I've tried shutting down firewalls, etc. Still a no go.

Do you happen to be on Vista?
I know Vista has always liked to give problems to this game.
I started up my laptop (which has Vista) to give Far Wilds a try since it's been a while since I played on it. The program won't even start, tells me TheFarWilds.exe has stopped working. :(

Clean install means uninstall the game and then download the latest version from the site and use that to install.

Welcome to my world :)
Vista is EVIL when it comes to FTW. Here are the varied way you can try get it to work.

Reinstall, running the installer as Administrator (right click and run as admin).
Run the updater as Administrator.
Disable Data Execution Prevention. To do this, type without quotes "bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff" into command prompt. To enable it again type "bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOn"
Disable User Account Control.
Run the game without running the launcher.
Install the latest Direct X, avalible here: http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Ab ... X10-a.aspx
Disable your sound drivers: Realtek and Creative both cause problems at times.
Fully update vista.
Buy/download Vista Service Pack 1.
Delete both/either/or pperms.xml and pref.xml in the /helpers directory then run launcher.
Install the latest graphics drivers for your card.
In the control Panel, go to Problem Reports and Solutions->View Problem History. See if TFW has caused any errors here. Mine did once, due to having 2 installations of TFW, the error been incorrect side by side configuration.
Create another account and try login in with it.

Hopefully something here works for you :)

Hey guys, I'm not running vista (still waiting for it to be reasonably stable at least <_<). Tried the clean intall and it still isn't working =/

I can't run the bcdedit file you're suggesting I run as it doesn't seem to be a runnable .exe from cmd prompt.

Don't have that 'problems and solutions' folder or program in ctrl panel either. Hmmm =/

What version of vista are you running?
Also, SP1 is essential for alot of games to continue working properly, you may want to get it.

Your error sounds very much like a DEP problem.
Are you running under an Administrator account?

Here are some other things to try:
Turn off User Account Control
Turn off Parental Controls

Personally for me with vista, there are around 10 command prompt... commands that i run at the beginning of every installation, just to make sure everything is stable. Ill try find the list when i have time and post it.

Bcdedit will only work in vista.

If you are now running XP and are still getting errors, try updating your BIOS, reinstalling/updating drivers and disabling sound drivers.

If all else fails, email me @ gamezfreak13@gmail.com and ill pack my TFW folder as a rar and send it to you, to ensure that it is not a insaller problem that you are experiancing.

Also, have you ever been able to log in, or is this since a certain patch?

Hey there, thanks for your help with all this btw.

I'm not running Vista, am running win XP, and yes, I'm using the installers and such under an admin account on the com. No idea where to find the UAC and Parental Controls though =/.

I've updated my Drivers and such and still no luck. I've never been able to log on, just registered 4 days ago or something. Hmmm..
