this may be a feature, not a bug ... but ...

when connected to tfw from home, I am automatically logged out after about a minute of inactivity. this can be subverted by playing a game, watching a game, or clicking "event schedule" over and over. however, it is problematic when I am idling waiting for a ladder match, a sealed/draft, or a slow opponent.

this seems to be a problem specific to my wireless router since I have no problems logging in from elsewhere ... unfortunately, I don't have access to the router configuration. I know nothing about connection persistence in this kind of environment; but, if there is some easy server-side fix that doesn't cause other problems, it might be worthwhile ... especially if there is a reasonable chance other (especially newer) players could be impacted similarly.

Your router must be closing the connection. Weird since we are sending a packet to you already every so often to keep the connection alive. Maybe just watch a game if you are idle. This will keep the connection active.
