I'm having some trouble logging in. Started with the latest patch yesterday. When I run the launcher, I get: ---------------------- C:\Users\Millwell>cd "c:\program files (x86)\the far wilds\helpers c:\Program Files (x86)\The Far Wilds\helpers>thefarwildslauncher.exe The Far Wilds Laucher v1.1: Checking for updates... | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Downloading media updates: 1/55 media/battle/terrain/terraintypes/tertype.4.2.0.png | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Error downloading updates... continuing... Launching! c:\Program Files (x86)\The Far Wilds\helpers> ---------------------- The client then comes up. When I try to log in, it says "Out of date client. Please run launcher." -d |

The website was down last night this might be the problem. Can you try now and see if it works? |

Still same error. Is there any way to manually update (download and install files)? Anybody else having this error? Is it possible that it's just failing to update the very first png and bailing out of the update process before it gets to the substantive files (the client, particularly)? -d |

i would try a couple of things 1) are you on vista? try running the launcher as admin 2) try deleting those files and see if the update works or gets further |

I'm using Vista. I'm on an admin account. Deleting the file appeared to work for that one file. But it doesn't give a list of files, so to do it that way (with 55 files to update) would require running the launcher, deleting the first file complained of, running the launcher, deleting the next file complained of, rinse and repeat 53 more times. I disabled UAC, rebooted, then tried again. Worked fine. On the other hand, there was apparently a new update added in the interim, because I had 60 files to update. I believe that disabling UAC (from MSCONFIG or the security settings) is what fixed it, but I can't be absolutely certain. I'm turning UAC back on, so next time there's an update we'll see whether it works or not. -d |

Had the same error after last night's update. I disabled UAC (User Account Control, you can get to it by running MSCONFIG and looking at the TOOLS tab), rebooted, and the update worked. Re-enabled UAC (again, through MSCONFIG->TOOLS), rebooted, and the program works okay. So that's a temporary Vista workaround for now, until it can be fixed. Disable UAC long enough to get the update. -d |

Update: The new method at least allows you to get a list of files to delete and thereby save two reboots: ==================================== C:\Program Files (x86)\The Far Wilds\helpers>TheFarWildsLauncher.exe The Far Wilds Laucher v1.1: Checking for updates... | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Downloading program updates: 1/3 OgreGuiSupport.dll | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Couldn't overwrite OgreGuiSupport.dll trying to continue Downloading program updates: 2/3 TheFarWilds.exe | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Couldn't overwrite TheFarWilds.exe trying to continue Downloading program updates: 3/3 Gui.dll | % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % % | Couldn't overwrite Gui.dll trying to continue Launching! ==================================== |

Uh, I'm retarded. Just right-click TheFarWildsLauncher.exe and select "run as admin" and it works fine. The funny thing about Vista is that the account I'm using is an admin account. But you have to take that extra step to actually force it to use administrator privileges. As you can probably tell, I haven't been using Vista for long. Sorry for the fuss. -d |
