Nice explanation, headshot, say thank ya for this, gave me a lot of stuff to think about myself .. just one question; would it be fun, if there was some ultimate deck, kicking all others? I don't think so.. it just needs.. more balance? Actually that's what I like here most (except buying cards, but that's more likely some kind of my deviation) - trying to find that Ultimate deck. (As that's only deck I can consistently keep winning with, according to my luck.) *smiles a bit and eats the buisquit*

While I think there are certain metadecks that will tend to beat others I think this is the case with any well balanced TCG. The alternative would be to have one ideal deck which would be even worse since then it would be all about optimizing that deck and playing with/against it continuously. Furthermore, I think a lot of the BL cards still have been fully explored and there is plenty of room to create alternative competitive decks (I have a few in mind, but am waiting till I have the cards to make them work). Finally, one of the great reasons to keep playing FW for me are the many limited formats that just don't exist in many other online TCG, and largely avoid the metadeck issues.

headshot wrote: It becomes more of a matter of choosing the right deck, the so called metagame. Like you said yourself Zurken: "there is no way to build a deck that can beat both the rush decks you [=me] and Huger are using and the building deck Cave is using." You have to choose which one you prepare for or lose to both. This is one of the reasons I'm quitting, I can flip coins in a less time-consuming way if that was what I wanted. I respectfully disagree. First it is quite possible to have a balanced deck that can win against both types of decks. Sure against extremely specialized decks every game will be a close one, but those are the best kind. (though, then again i stand no chance against a big huge creature deck with it... lol. Also damn you dispel flux, damn you!!) Specialised decks can really be somewhat of a coin toss against other tightly focused decks, so maybe try something else, mix it up. Furthermore it often feels that the more competitive a deck is, its proportion to fun diminishes. I really get sadfaced after a day or two of killkillkillkill, and start goofing around, preferably with less encountered cards. The more mad a combo is the more fun it gets! Also maybe try and take a break for a while before a final decision on quitting. Theres a a bunch of people leaving right now, this shoutout goes to all of you as well. In other news this post is actually about me convincing myself

You guys are right, it would be worse if there was a deck that had a great advantage against any other (let's say at least 50% different cards) possible deck out there. At least now there are counters against anything, like our 1-domain sylvan decks: Cull & Stench Cow, and Ivory Spire, Desolation Totem and Earthquake against cave's building deck. TFW wants to be a complex CCG that has lots of different deck-building options and playstyles, and it's a great success at that for sure. More different things to try bring more variety, but this 'rock, paper & scissors' is an inevitable by-product. For me the most fun part has been constantly improving my playing and gaining new strategic insights and applying them in game. And I would want be the winner generally in a match where I am better at this than the opponent. The rock, paper & scissors -element ruins chances for this mostly, or makes it too frustrating. I still think this game is very good, just started to realize it doesn't suit me. I would personally happily sacrifice lots of variety to make all army-pairings as balanced as possible, assuming all the armies are built as competitively as possible for their type. What I would want would be there to be a set of at least 3 (with 2 it's always the same sauron-vs-hobbits kind of match) different armies, that would satisfy these conditions: each of the armies in the set would be equally matched up vs the others in the set, and equally or favorably matched up vs all the armies that don't belong in the set. Although it's not a ccg, Starcraft would be a good example of this. But it's also a real-time strategy clicking-competition, and I hate those because they are stressful and I suck horribly at them. "Too long, didn't read" version: game is very good, but doesn't suit me in the long run. EDIT: 200 posts, I think this is a good time to stop posting too

headshot said it might be creepy and/or people will think I'm his alt, but I'm going to say it anyway. The only reason I had even stayed with the game was because headshot was still here then - I would have left a long time ago if were not for his friendship. With him, I had great conversations and discussions - even when it came to things we disagreed on we could synthesize each our views and each gain new insight, if one didn't manage to persuade the other in the first place. And the reason I would have left a long time ago is because the my experience with TFW had been quite the opposite of what I had with headshot. When I play, I play to win, so I do have to accept the game for what it is to some extent, and boy I do try. The competitive player in me stops me from whining just because I lose due to how the game works. But the game designer in me finds many inadequacies with the game, inadequacies that to me are emminently fixable; inadequacies that yet nevertheless fail to incite even an acknoledgement from jed despite lengthy and prolonged forum discussions, inadequacies that refuse be discussed rationally. I was here to play the game, not to design the game for someone else, nor to figure how to be polite while I lambasted aspects of the game just so that I could be more 'persuasive', nor writing long emails or constructing long posts only to come to the realization they were all still a complete waste of everyone's time. Yes, I still recognize what an achievement TFW is (and how young the game is yada yada yada...) but it is the idea that deserves the praise, not the game design or the game design philosophy behind the game. That jed has spent much money and effort to make playing the game even possible is completely irrelevant if only for one reason - he's unabashedly a businessman when it comes to developing TFW. I don't need the game, and the game doesn't need players like me around. And those who have had the same feelings as I did who are still here should ask themselves why they're even bothering. TFW has been fun, and I met a lot of very cool people, that I wouldn't have more chance to get to know. A shoutout to 'queen', the go-player. The alt whom you discussed ladder with, who refused to reveal his identity, that was me. If there's going to be another game like TFW, I hope to see some of you there. And who knows how much TFW would have improved if I come back in a few years time, maybe I'd actually be able to play the game for a lot longer if I ever come back then. Until then, bye guys! Edit: I might still end up hanging around the forums 'trolling' (essentially, I guess ), so maybe you haven't seen the last of me muahaha!

$25
Edit: LOL
Edit:
Let it be known, on this day that sooty and headshot quit the game. Both with over 1700 rating in limited... and constructed, and a combined win amount of over 40,000 games, 25,234 from headshot, 15,001 from sooty. Truly, no one will ever reach the heights of prestige these two players have set and left here today.
Edit: $30

Thanks UBER, that was essentially what I was trying to say, but I thought it might have sounded arrogant from me.
Maybe there ought to be a new forum section called "Group Hug" for these kind of discussions...
30$ bid, do I hear 60?
