It seems that there's no need to have the 3rd place game in 5-person EC's, as a 3rd prize is not awarded in that case. Having the game results in some frustration, as people expect to walk away with a prize for winning it, and are disappointed to find that they don't (even if you already know that there's no 3rd prize for 5ers, you don't always notice how many people have joined a particular EC).

As far as I can recall, it didn't require a match for 3rd place in an underpopulated EC. Recently, it started doing them again. It's no biggie, really, just an extra game... one you didn't really want anyway, which is why I think it should be removed.

Please, if you're going to insist a 3rd place game be played, the very least you can do is award him a power. This has been going on way too long.

speaking just for myself, I like ECs for three reasons: 1) they are competitive; 2) I don't get kicked off during them (normally I idle out of the game every two minutes); and 3) there is an award. yes, ideally the third place game would always give a power to the winner ... but even if it doesn't, I prefer the game still be played.

and I don't understand why you are trying to shorten ECs in this thread while complaining in another thread that no-one plays outside ECs.

Well, I think that for 5 player 3rd place games, you should give both players the option to not play the 3rd place game. That way if you are like queeshai, you can play it, or if you are Ata (and this may be just me, but are you being a hypocrite ?), you can avoid it altogether with no points lost.

I'm not going to be hypocritical like most people (yes, zblader, look up the meaning of the word, please, please, please. I'm not the one being a hypocrite.). I'm going to say it flat out. Though most of you like to pretend you're all high, mighty and good, I play the EC's for one reason and one reason alone. I want the Power. If there's no chance for me to get the Power, I don't want to play.



Quite simple, really... EC games are different from non-EC games. EC games are very competitive, in non-EC games, you actually get to play against "fun" decks. Additionally, I was not complaining. I was stating a simple fact. Complaining is not allowed in the crying thread. Additionally... length of EC's is a completely different thing from frequency of EC's. What's wrong with shorter EC's? I would very much prefer to have a 30-minute EC ever hour than a 2-hour EC every 8 hours.

Finally (and this is directed to the "player base" in general)... I just noticed that the two people who have pushed for this, yaron and I, are two of the most active players in the game, in the actual game. Those that rarely play anymore, though... Yeah... Sorry, I don't want to hurt your feelings.

Ata: you don't lose rating if you resign before you play any cards. so just resign if you really don't want to play for 3rd.

Good deal. Not a very good idea, though, about the ratings... Reason being that I'm assuming that works for ladder points and exiting like that kinda cheats the ladder. If it does not work the same way for ladders, then... ok.
