So I was just posting in the "Beta?" thread when an idea came to me...

Why not have player achievements/titles?

Maybe have certain achievements/titles for beating the computer X number of times, for helping with the beta test, for winning/placing/participating in league play... for winning with certain domain types... or for playing with a deck of all rares or commons, etc... or you could have an "arch nemesis" listed on your profile for whichever fellow community member has beaten you the most times... there are all kinds of fun community-building things you could do in this area!

P.S.--Partial credit for this idea goes to BabyLeech, who was the reason I was thinking about player rewards in the first place. :-)

Give the man a glass of wine! ;)

Seriously, very good idea.
I opt for small amounts of gold in addition to an achievement and achievement of various levels. That would look like this, for instance:
Win vs AI 100 times = achievement + 15 gold
Win vs AI 250 times = achievement + 25 gold
Win vs AI 500 times = achievement + 50 gold

This would give players another reason to play and being rewarded is always nice ^_^

Love it. It's like middle school superlatives all over again. I call Most Whimsical.

No, seriously, it is a really good idea and it gives you some greater goal beyond each individual game or league. Plus, the reason I keep coming back is the community. And it seems like everyone is actually taking an interest in where this goes. So things like titles or achievements or secret unlocks could reward the people that put in the time, without penalizing the more casual Wilders.

Exactly! :D

Actually some free flash games developed quite serious systems of achievements and awards. GemCraft (google it if you want to try it, you will find it easily) had it in similar form I put it: every achievement had its few levels.

And coming from my experiences, it really works :)
Especially if reward = not just a reward but also a small bonus.

Rewards for certain activities would be good, but I was thinking of things that would be in your profile... and the current one would display when someone moused over your name. I was thinking of things along the lines of the following:

=> The other day I had someone volcano me FOUR times, and hurricane me twice. Four volcanos in one game deserves like... a "Loki" award or something. He's the anglel that rained down brimstone right?

=> Or how about changing 10 or more squares of terrain in one game with geomancer or natureshaping? That's gotta deserve a "Genesis" award... or if you made it all water, perhaps a "Noah" award.

=> Beat the computer 10 times? How about a "novice" title (up from no title).
=> 50 times? "Amatuer AI Stomper"
=> 100 times? "AI Pwner"
=> 500 times? "God I need gold so bad..."

=> Win a domain league? "Knight of the the <<domain>>"
=> "Place" in a domain league? <<domain>> Apprentice/Initiate
=> Win once and win/place 2 more times with a given domain? "<<domain>> Master"

=> WIN a domain league once with each domain? "Master of my own domain"

=> Win single elim tourney? "First Blood"

=> 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 etc. etc. game winning streak awards (vs people, not computer)

=> On a 5 or more game losing streak? "it's just a flesh wound"

=> Win a tourney without losing? "Flawless Victory"

=> Win a 3 player game? "Double Kill" 4 player? "Multi Kill"

=> Win a game on the tinyest map size? "Close Combat"
=> Win a game on the largest map? "Nomad"

=> Win with a deck of commons? "Pauper's Revenge" A deck of uncommons? "Not your average bear" A deck of rare/ultra rares? "Get this dude off the stage"

=> Win a game w/out engaging in combat? "Can't touch this"
=> Win with 25 or more flux in the bank? "I've got the power"
=> Win with 50 or more flux in the bank? "Flux Capacitor"

=> Win when your opponent has no creatures? "Executioner"
=> Win when your opponent has no buildings? "Raze and Pillage"
=> Win without building creatures? "Real Estate Agent"

And then if you were to earn one of these titles, maybe set it up so that new ones last for a certain period of time... and when that lapses you can change your title to whatever you want.

At a later date, you could also start limiting/restricting certain tournaments functions to players who had a "Knight of <<domain>>" title (had won a domain tourney).

:lol:

The first one really made me laugh :D
Second one brings nice memories when so many joysticks finished up in a trash can.
And 3rd and 4th are most extreme but also very original ones :)

I would suggest to create icons for every achievement to place it in player's profile once he/she will achieve it.

The only issue I would see is clutter: accumulating too many of these things in your mini-profile. Maybe after you get more than 1, you can choose which one gets displayed?

To be honest, I'd rather titles, if any, were done on a case-by-case basis down the road. Yes, that Natural Disaster player deserves recognition, but do we really want everyone going out and doing it just to get the title? It was creative and original the first time and they deserve credit for it, but come on.. everyone who finds out he got a title for it can more or less do it. Besides it builds better community if titles are unique.

That said, I think that is pretty far down the list of needs and wants... I'd much rather see the option to buy decks and/or individual cards long before I got a snazzy cookie-cutter title.

To each their own, naturally; I'm not bashing or trolling.
