Ten alt accounts playing against each other is a lot more attractive to new players than an empty lobby...

That's true (for ladder), and I don't see why people want to go back to gold in ladder. Gold/power in EC works perfectly fine!

I want to go back to gold in the ladder, but I realize that is impractical at the moment.

Gold in the ladder allowed people to get rewarded for doing well against people their same level. This is one of the few methods that allowed newer people have a chance of getting gold encouraging them to play the game. It also encouraged people to play matches against others, increasing the amount of activity in the game. Unfortunately the abuse has definitely made it impossible to do this without policing and enforcing the current policy system.

Currently the focus is not on putting people in policing roles though and hoping that development can handle the policing instead. Currently though, such development is lacking.

I know it has been around many times ..
but what just making it ..
to participate in ladder you have to win 50 games against real players by scoring 20G
and you can play everyone just once a week
would make any abusing a real pain in the ass..

but these were the good ol' times when there was really MANY players around, playing ..
ever since the gold was removed from ladder the game was just heading towards it's doom =X

Nah, TFW was a great game until SOMEONE came up with that brilliant idea to remove power from the EC.

I think in terms of reward, we should have a place system that goes something like this:

1st - 5th : Power
6th -7th : 2 gold.
Rest of players: phantoms.
It's pretty hard to exploit a system like that,. since the experts would notice that a certain group of accounts has been hogging high place.
