It seems like if someone goes out of their way to show up for an EC they should recieve a prize. To encourage them to keep showing up, and to keep them from being ticked there was no EC.

I like your idea, waiting around for a tournament is a time commitment so it feels bad when no one else shows up and you get nothing.
