Emerald spring heals both friendlies and unfriendlies. I'm not sure if this is a bug (the card description says "any unit"), but it certainly reduces the usefulness of the card.

It is designed to work that way, however I feel the same way as you do about that card. I don't like the thought of the opponent being able to destroy my buildings and getting free heals in the process!

Yeah this is by design. I think the card is still worth it you just have to be a little careful where you place it.
