Spell
Domain: X
Cost: 1+*

* = 1/2 flux cost of last spell or enchantment played by opponent, rounded up. Last spell or enchantment played by opponent is removed from the game. Effects of last spell or enchantment played by opponent are reversed.

So this is really a counterspell... so maybe call it by a different name? "Deflection" tells me that my opponent's spell is null and I get to choose a target as if I had just cast it.

I think the text on this one would be something like:

Target spell is removed from game, a copy of spell enters play under your control.

I guess this raises the whole question of whether counterspells are appropriate in this game.

We playing TFW, this is game, this is not some MTG variation, I believe that we don't need this MTG mechanic :)
It's my opinion as player, not as developer.

*First and foremost this rant cannot be taken as an insult because it is not. I get it that some players like to watch their opponent wriggle helplessly. I am not bashing them. Just simply that mindset in a game is alien to me. I like a tug-o-war seat-of-the-pants challenging game. Therefore it might sound hostile but i've seen people screaming and calling each other names over these "concepts" in person.

While there's plenty of stuff to "be inspired" from Tragic the Gardening, the denial grief should NOT worm its way into this game.
Kill my creatures, wreak havoc on the landscape, play overpowered cards... but LET me do so as well.

Also... loooootsa years ago I was young and playing a Hypnotic Specter/Hymns to Tourach discard deck, but i've since redeemed myself and developed empathy lol.
(OMFG i still remember the exact stats of those cards....aaaaah need brain bleach aaaah) Hopefully i wont remember specifics of TFW cards in 10 years...!!

There were decks in TtG that basically amounted to not letting the other player play (via land destruction, discards, counterspells or keeping everything tapped), and these decks made lotsa players either quit the game (after being on the receiving end too often) or being unable to find somebody who'd play with them (even after they stopped using such decks), ...yeah i know its stupid but this is what happened at my local gaming store years ago :( pressure from a bunch of people basically made the store veto discard decks for quite a long time...

Now back to TFW.. sure theres a bunch of cards that kinda does that sorta stuff, but its limited by its very number of available cards.
Okay seems the Dwarves can do some nasty sorta grief in the denial bussiness right now, so if somebody reallly has to play a denial deck, they can.

But stack some more NEW cards to that and it would probably make lotsa people pissed. You see none of these cards are problematic by themselves(and are probably needed to spice up the game), its really when you can make a deck thats FULL of such stuff.
(Ie. make 4 variations of negate plus 2 different creatures that can do so too, and some buildings with such a special too, and soon it doesnt matter what this deck is playing against, all it sees is targets...lol)

Remember: Denial is only fun for ONE player, and this is a GAME. The objective is to win, but the purpose is to have FUN.

Thank you for your time.

2 black, target opponent discards 2 cards at random. 2 black, 1 any, 2/2 flying creature. If hippie shade damages a player, that player discards a card at random. Let me have that bleach when you're done.

That said, I don't think the counterspell mechanic needs to be added to this game.

I agree about most of what you said about denial. However, even with the rough wording I posted, the card I suggested woud do things like undo Negates, and wouldn't work on creatures or buildings (notice it only said spell or enchantment, and that was intentional). It's largely intended as a counter to the monopoly MF has on denial at the moment, and it can still be blocked by a Dew Mogi, or another Deflection were it to be implemented.

It also has a really limited target ability, restricted only to the last card played that meets the spell/enchantment requirements.

It also has a scaling flux cost, which Negate and Disnenchant do not, so Deflecting a Demonic Surge, for example, could get to be very expensive.

It's at least intended to be a balanced concept, and it might be something worth trying out since we're still technically in beta.

I'd like to see this limited to immediately after the spell is cast. So, "If the last action taken by opponent was a spell or enchantment, that spell or enchantment is removed from the game. Effects of that spell or enchantment are reversed."

That way it's an immediate give and take.
