There is now a ladder that gives out 1500 gold in prizes every week. You can play ladder games just by going fight! -> similar player.
If you win you will earn ladder points. If you lose you will lose some ladder points. You get more points for beating higher ranked people. You lose less points the higher the enemy is ranked. So it isn't so bad to lose to someone of a higher rank than you but if you manage to beat them you get a lot of points.
The people with the highest ladder points at the end of the week will win gold and the points will be reset for the next week.
All ladder games are against people of a similar skill level so really anyone can win the weekly gold.
You must be within 100 points constructed rating of someone for the ladder game to count. And both of you must have a rank uncertainty less than 170. If you beat someone of higher rank than you you will gain more ladder points than if you beat someone of a lower rank than you. If you lose to someone of lower rank than you you will lose more ladder points than if you lose to someone of higher rank. Each game you play with the same person in the same week counts for less ladder points. You can't have negative ladder points.

HI Jed
Thx for the new features that give to my mind a real way to make new players addicted and able to win some gold, even if some hav already won GC with default deck...
Can you just explain a little more the way it goes...?
What do you mean by similar player? is the constructed ranking important, or status of player (emperor, hero, squire...), or even a interval of victories (cause between 1 and 70 victories there are no huge difference between players...?
The second thing is how are calculated the points for the ladder? the points granted depends on the difference of ranking or if you beat a stronger player you have always the same amount of points even if he s just a little stronger or an invincible foe...?

Also I just want to remind people that the way this ladder works isn't set in stone. This is the first week and I'm sure we will have to tweak it to make it more fair/ more fun for people. So please post your suggestions.

I have a hard time getting ladder games to count for various reasons. I've gone 8-0 in similar player matches since the implementation of the new ladder system, but only 3 of those games awarded me ladder points!
First off, I've played games against some players who were about 85 rating below me (Still within the 100 rating range) but when I win and they fall more than 100 rating below me, I don't get any points for that victory. If I would've lost that game, I'd of lost a huge amount of points. I think that no matter where an opponent ENDS UP in rating, your earned amount of points should be tabulated against your STARTING rating vs his STARTING rating - not the end rating. This is particularly annoying because I know if I win I get nothing, but if I lose I get screwed hard.
Another thing is, only one match per week against a certain player counting. That's fine, and perhaps it should be 2 matches (since our player pool isn't that huge yet) but can it stop matching me against that person when I queue up for a similar game? =P
All in all I love the ladder idea. I used to just wait for constructed tournaments but now I'm playing a lot more during the day. It's obviously new, so changes will be made but thanks a ton Jed this is a great idea

Just something I have an issue with:
I played someone and clearly outmatched him within the first five turns. He resigned. I didn't get any points. I set myself available to play again, and when we played the second time, he won. I lost a fair amount of points. If a player resigns within five turns, it doesn't count? How is that fair? Think of all the ways it could be abused.
Just my thoughts.

Yeah. Ironically, that was actually implemented back when you got a gold for each game you played, win or lose. It was meant to avoid more or less exactly what happened to you... so you couldn't start and resign an infinite number of games against the AI to build up gold... over time the "free gold" has been dropped but I think the 5-turn thing got forgotten. LOL
Nice catch... sorry it had to be that way to find it though... LOL
