I dont like the wording on silver (if it is wai)

It says it cancels enchantments in adjacent spaces.

But i also cancel enchantments directly on it. for inexperienced players i think the text should reflect this.

"Adjacent" includes space directly under entity (for total 7 spaces).
That keyword definitely needs hyperlink :D

oh i see. they've taken the liberty of redefining adjacent. hyperlink for sure then.

Things like this are important to make the game user friendly to new players.

Yeah, it has come up before. If you can think of a better word for "this and all surrounding spaces" that wold be cool... I, for one, can't think of a better way to word it though, and I've been trying. It's always misleading at first but I can't think of a better solution, unfortunately....

For Jed's sake, I think we should just define adjacent clearly on the site. When they do translate this game, you will see text expansion of up to 40%... so avoiding phrases whenever possible would be preferred.

I disagree with the need to define "adjacent" differently. The text of the card reads "Enchantments adjacent to Silver Stagg at the end of an action have no effect."

The Silver Stagg is not a "space" but rather a figure in a space. As an enchantment can be a separate entity in the same space, it would be adjacent to the Stagg.

Now if it were an enchant space that read "Enchantments adjacent to target space at the end of an action have no effect," I'd agree that that phrasing would not include the target space. Yes this is being very nit picky, but that was the whole point of this thread, right?

no the point of the thread is not to be nit picky. Its to be clear. and to make suggestions that will make the game user friendly, intuitive, and easy for new players to understand.

As far as wording goes I dont see it being that complicated.

"Enchantments on, and adjacent to, silver stag at the end of an action have no effect."

Id actually like to see it read like this but it would change the way it works and that not why i started this thread.

"At the end of an action enchantments on, and adjacent to, silver stag have no effect."

This is still wrong, you need to say "enchantments on, under, and adjacent to" but this words looks really bad.

There are dozens of cards with the term "adjacent". They all use adjacent to include that space. The word "adjacent" is a term of art in TFW, and concerns about its wording/phrasing/meaning aren't limited to the stagg.

That being said, I either agree with Agro that "adjacent" should not include the current space or (and this is probably the better option) "adjacent" should be left as is and a new term should be used to describe all spaces touching a target space but not the target space itself. Otherwise, it makes it clunky to create a creature with a special ability to "Deal two damage to all adjacent spaces except the space occupied by [creature]."

I guess at some point, wordiness is just unavoidable?

I guess it depends on how well you think, spaces and entities are defined and used in game and how adjacent works with each pairing. Things get may get confusing because figures are limited to one per space but other entities aren't.

Using standard definitions, here's how I read it:

A space is adjacent to (at most) six other spaces (but not itself).
A space is adjacent to any entity on itself or on an adjacent space.

An entity is adjacent the space its on and the spaces adjacent to that space.
An entity is adjacent to another entity sharing its space or any entity in an adjacent space.
