I'm not surprised that Altren and Sunyaku win regularly even when they have a terrain handicap; they are significantly better than most other players. It is in games against evenly matched players where the terrain handicap is an issue.

but in the example posted the player put his first building in an objectively bad place *no matter what the surrounding terrain looks like*... the building should have been placed one closer to the centre, or if he has some strategy that wants to be far away from the middle for some reason, it should be back further towards the corner, but there is NO reason whatsoever to put your first building where it is... then you can get out of the mess with bone fortresses etc.. or aloft/swimming creatures.. a HUGE part of the game is terrain, you should have SOMETHING in your deck that can help you resist "bad" terrain or take advantage of one kind of terrain or another...

Second its not why I placed the graveyard there, and the reason for that is because since Elves have high movement and vision putting it in such a spot prevents them from spotting where my base is on the second round. If for one turn my opponent doesn't know where my base is then thats an advantage for me. Most people build as close to the middle well as they could, I don't. Most of you Sylvan/elem or Dwarf/elem users need to build towards the well since its part of your combo to build early towards the middle well. My deck doesn't do that I prefer using creatures for control and planting buildings as I go.

Well not if I want to put another building that could see the same well, and both be some what hidden.
