The idea of adding achievements has been tossed around in a couple threads, but I'd like to make a thread specifically for the idea. I think adding them to the game would add a lot of value to the new player experience: give them some small things to always be striving for.

some examples:
wins vs the computer
wins vs humans
times winning EC
times participating in EC
# cards collected
# phantoms collected
# of games played/won with <certain domain> decks
# of games played/won with default decks
# of drafts/leagues participated in
highest ladder ranking
etc

ranks could have cool names, but I think it's important to have actual rewards for gaining achievement ranks rather than just hallow victories. something like 0/1/2/3/4/5 power on each rank-up (0 to start to dissuade people from farming on different accounts).

I think right now a new player can easily get overwhelmed and these little victories could be a good way to start to understand the game piece by piece.

I always tot of acheivements as a bit odd.

Anyway, we can give a free common, and later uncommon presistant phantom cards as prizes.

Like say after your 50th win, you get a presistant phantom common card. After your 100th win, an uncommon one. (you probably wont need anymore after that)

But if we DO have achievements, lets not do all the weird, 1st win, 1st ladder, etc etc, all that low level fake achievements. REAL achievements only pls. Milestones kind of things.
Your 1st booster bought, your anniversary, etc etc.

Power rewards for meaningful achievements is a great idea. The key would be making the achievements such that there would be no real incentive for creating new accounts just to get the first tier of achievement rewards. If there were awards for some long-term achievements as well, it might encourage players to focus on one account rather than playing multiple accounts... which would be good for the ranking system and ladder.

I agree, i also mentioned wanting achievements/awards a while ago in viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1079. If there are prizes attached to the achievements i think permanent phantom cards (like the ones from the default decks) would be the way to go. I really wouldn't mind if there were no prizes or if everyone started from scratch.
