One of the best things about this game over many others is that you can collect cards (obvious I know, but bear with me). In order to keep more players in the game I think it would be helpful if everyone could build a deck for relatively cheap. As such, I propose everyone sell commons (seed set for now, everything eventually) on the market for 1 gold each. I realize this will never happen for some cards like lysis, but I think it would help keep people in the game if they could build a decent deck for very little gold. In addition, I would ask Jed to consider removing the tax for cards that are on the market for one gold.

To show that I think this is a good idea every extra common I have from the seed set is for sale at one gold on the market (so two with current tax) and just PM for them at one gold directly.

Removing the tax for low gold transactions is a fine idea. I don't know where the "line" should be, but a change like this would certainly make it easier for new players to build decks... especially after they buy a preset deck, and can actually swap out quite a few cards with the 50g they get.

I'd suggest getting rid of the market tax entirely. That would help promote use of the market and make for an efficient trading environment.

Although it can be played for free, this game can also cost quite a lot to play and every tournament has tax included. I spent 1000g on KC just last night...that adds up pretty quickly.

I really am not sure, whether this can be actually taken as >spending< gold, as you got cards for it + also part of it was given into the pot...

Also I think that the tax on market is fine, definitely on those better cards with higher cost. I agree that it should be removed for cards with <10g cost.. I also would really love to see there option to sell any card back to game for 1g .. because when I get 10 Heat Waves in domain it really sucks - that way I would have at least 10g back, and that's definitely better than nothing. :)

I think people are missing some of the particular benefits of this idea. First, rather than effectively destroying commons for one gold, this would assure that they help newbs and keep them in the game. Second, the reason for suggesting only the removal of taxes on one gold commons is that I understand the taxes are what helps to keep this game profitable for the developers. I'm just suggesting that removing it at the lowest level would bring in and retain more people which in its own way would be profitable too.

Well, if you can win consistently you can play KC for free and keep getting the cards. One KC player a match can do that, but I'm not one yet. I did get cards, but only about 400g worth at market sell prices. Either way, I spent the gold, whether it is considered to be on the KC or on the cards. To build the decks I'd like to build, I'm looking at a lot more KC or purchases...probably a couple hundred dollars worth.

That might not be all that expensive a hobby, but it is an expensive game.

The key point though, is that an effective, efficient trading environment promotes game play and there is already a lot of tax built into the play system.

Before discovering the Wilds, I was a big BattleForge junkie and founded one of their first semi-legit guilds, The Ages, by doing something very similar. My cohorts and I would challenge n00bs and if they showed promise (game knowledge, solid strats, no ragequits, general respect for other players and the game itself), we would simply GIVE them a seed deck (common/uncommons) and a small amt of coinage. Within a month of initiating the protocol, we had fourteen regulars and at least ten more kids logging on >1/week, all of whom were happily pumping in their own realworld money and paying the favors forward.

I realize that this requires the generosity of vets and isn't for everyone, but in the scope of things, what are you ACTUALLY losing? A whole buck, buck-fifty, in exchange for giving a tentative n00b a boost into the game -- a solid investment, any way you count it.
