Yeah i totally hear ya people, if i hadnt had the pleasure of quite a bunch of good people to chat with on TFW i wouldnt have stayed here as long as i have.

I often wish this game was a lot different in fundamental design and among many other things certainly not a CCG (luckily it can be ignored, i just buy everything of the market)

Btw headshot, check out Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic, it has many similiar things (fantasy, hex maps, terraforming with spells, armies moving about, flux points) and it has that army balance thing you long for (lotsa people on the net agree its best of its type). Its also comparable to Civilization/Master of Magic/HeroesMM. Though like Civ, turns can be long and multiplayer is mostly through email or hotseat.

Well I've learned that TFW is best in small doses, plus the game is sorta addictive, so yeah small doses of TFW for me. Like the Trunk Hermit expect me to pop up, have some fun, and be gone till the next new deck idea. Never quite gone, never quite present.

Stop this already!
Makes me sad and wanting to leave as well (and those bids on collection.. imagining what I could sell my coll. for .. lol, would be happy for 20, but still)..
If you're just moving somewhere else, let me please know (Sooty, headshot) ;)
Maybe this at least will help me to make me less addicted .. lol (spend today over 2 hours making up a deck, playing a mighty game against Huger with it and then deciding that it would need too much work for me to bother and it still would be just an average deck so I trashed it.. but it was so much fun :) <and boooring on the other hand as well. Trickster always eats lots of time.>)
I'd bid too, headshot, but unfortunately all I can offer are my cards which I suppose aren't what you're looking for :D as I can't let real money go. So.. sorry for just bumping in your thread.

Thanks (this time seriously) for the great discussion cylone and Zurken.

cylone: yeah Shadow Magic is great! I had already forgotten about it, thanks for reminding. I mostly played only hotseat co-op, but if I remember right it does have an option for simultaneous turns to speed up multiplayer. Although the pace is faster than in Civs, actually finishing a game might take even longer I guess because at least Civ ends inevitably somewhere in the 2000's (again so long since I've played civilizations, I'm not sure about this).

The stuff I already talked about was one reason, but a bigger reason is actually that I've spent on this game WAY too much time and brain-power, which would be needed in many other places. I might actually stay for any formats that don't require owning or buying cards.

ATTENTION: I'm removing the 300-400 gold from the deal and keeping the buy-it-now price the same. If you want to withdraw your bids because of this it's perfectly ok of course.

I've followed the discussion in this thread with some interest, but I have to call nonsense. with the new set, there are plenty of entirely new viable strats which require additional skill development. sure they're still nascent, but that doesn't mean they're not there.. just have to do a little digging. I understand not wanting to invest in a new set, but to say that the game is stale is, I believe, presumptive.

the corresponding matter about rock, paper, scissors is a pretty common theme in all multiplayer games, and if you can point one out that manages to get around it, please let me know. it's one of the quintessential design problems. that said, I'm curious how the new set either makes it more or less of an issue, but that is unknowable for now.

the third point that's been brought up; I will admit that the management of the game is at times counter-productive. but jed+co do put their all into it, so I can't fault them for what - in my perspective - are less optimal business moves. again, this is a hard problem and for them to get be able to get it 100% right would be.. impressive if not impossible. but they listen and care, and that's a hell of a lot more than you get in many other games.

sad to see you guys go, but I have a feeling you'll be back at some point.

It's amusing that this should be your answer to me because I had more or less claimed that the way in which they 'listen and care' is precisely the reason why I am so disappointed. I have enough encounters to be absolutely convinced of this already, one of which had just occured a few days back on the forums (Hi, Altren).

No, I refuse to articulate these examples, because I would merely be preaching to the choir, although I will I assure you my negative experiences are confirming and damning for me. I don't have an issue with those who can allow themselves to be unperturbed, empathizing or even oblivious - if you can have fun in this game despite anything, great for you. That the negative experiences sap away majority of the fun from me perfectly justifies me moving on now that I no longer have a reason to stay. This certainly isn't nonsense, and I would appreciate you not lumping my reasons for not staying with headshot's (who seems to not be completely leaving anyways).

I should clarify that all the talk of 'staying', 'leaving' and 'coming back' has no real import to me. If I stop playing the game out of principle, but continue to participate in the forums in my own way, does that count as leaving? Does coming back to play the game but refusing to be a vocal member of the community here still count as 'coming back'? Is anyone really conciously 'staying' or are they just playing the damn game?

I had been using those terms merely colloquially. To be both absolutely truthful and obfuscating at the same time, I would tell you that I am neither staying nor leaving the game, because to do either would be to imply that the game warrants or deserves some form of meaningful act of engagement or disengagement; it doesn't. I'm not playing merely because I don't derive sufficient enjoyment out of it, but clearly writing these obtusely long (hah.) posts are somewhat entertaining to me. Either I was never really 'here', or I will never be 'back'. In either cases your feelings are wrong Doiron ;)

Bad luck for jed, I think. Ignoring someone who's way better than I am and taking care of me instead.
Sorry Sooty, for stealing jed's time he should've given to you ;)
I don't think this literally, but at least a bit is true, as I never had problems with jed. I ask him for something .. he answers, argues, thinks about the problem.
There was broken EC - I told him that I've won in challenges we played afterwards and in a minute I had the Power on account.
I've told him via PMs in Lobby (really exhausting for him it was, I am sure of that) what I think about autodraw .. we've talked for like 2 hours about it (consistently disrupted by my bloody connection) - and he adjusted it a bit in the end. (The 'how it should be from now on' option.)
I've put a card suggestion (comments appreciated, lol) .. no response from anyone (probably because I can't explain well :X) - so I asked him once in Lobby (my bad habit) - he said he read it and liked it + might use at least something of it's idea. (I decided to believe him ;))
Considering how much work he must have here .. it's still admirable work he does - f.e. have a look on GameForge (I'm playing some their games, more or less - OGame, but they have many others) - they've never ever listened to anyone, not even to their own admins! EVERYONE was against proposed change, but still they did it .. (lot of players left, I will too once it gets on my server) that's how I think it looks like, when developers aren't listening to the players base.
He just can't answer every single post in forum as he wouldn't be able to do anything else. But I'm sure he reads and thinks about those important ones (f.e. from peoples he knows are good players etc.)..

Doiron is partly right I think - you mustn't forget there were betas out for more than a month (maybe two?) - where you had a chance to play with ALL TFW cards (ahh, I spend there soo much time, it was really fun :)) - so it's completely true, with those strategies etc. But even now from time to time I (or someone else) come up with another one I haven't thought of back then. But their number is already limited..

headshot; I can't but agree (and my da AS WELL - he's always angry, lol) about the time spend here, but still I think it's a not completely wasted one. And thanks to ppl like you.. because the friendly community is what I think I value most.. Was playing a game for 2 years just because of the people in my guild there - in fact just chatting with them all the time :D
So with you not being around that much anymore (sounds better Sooty? ;)) the game itself will get much poorer too.. but I don't blame you, nor am trying to persuade for not doing so, in fact you're helping me not to be that much addicted as well :D

Heh, think that's enough talking for now, it's ginormous anyway.

I was a little miffed by your reply at first, seeing only the sarcasm that others might infer from the first few lines of your post, even though I know it isn't that. Anyway, I thought that while you missed my point somewhat, I do think you've suggested something that makes me think I should reconsider my opinion of Jed, even if only slightly.

What you missed is that, like I've said before and will say again for the last time, Jed does listen. He doesn't ignore me one bit. And what you've made me consider is that perhaps the way to reason with Jed is not to debate him publicly, or to post in the forums, but to reason with him personally. That, I haven't tried, and I haven't witnessed anyone trying, and therefore I haven't been disappointed by him in that respect.

I never felt it was something appropriate for me to do. But you've been (or so I've heard) one of the oldest players here, and perhaps that makes a difference, either to Jed himself, or to you. I wonder if I should try, or have my unbridled criticisms made that impossible?

Here I'll just comment the part about me being around for so long...
that's far from true, if you'd say active for kinda long period of time then it might be true, but in fact there are plenty players (still) around who are here for much longer (except names likes grug, CaveTroll... oh, just check last GC, even players like emancipate ;))

and sorry for that possible sarcasm in my first lines, it definitely wasn't supposed to be there :)
+you of course are correct, I missed your point there.
