Sometimes I'm online and I see no reason to play a match. There are reasons to play matches though. I'm going to list them. Keep in mind, these are from my view. EC matches Gamble Deck Testing Fun (Covers free sealeds, 2v2,etc) Ladder(I do this for fun) Trades Seems like pretty simple logic. Obvious reasons to play. Now Im going to show a chart I before I get to the resolution of this post. So, there are somethings I'm starting to notice. Of course I didn't add everything on my list either. People often talk of getting new players but this is what your offering the new players and the current players. It seems about half the time, for an experience player there isn't a ton of reason to play. Disclamer: This post dose not suggest any new ideas. It's supposed to be completely impartial.

This is sort of ish how I feel. I lurk the forum all the time, but haven't actually played in almost six months... part of that is because I've taken on a lot more responsibilities recently, and part of is that I love competition... but if there's not anything big to compete for, the game is just one of many many many things competing for my time right now.
Although I do always enjoy the shark tank...

PLEASE PLEASE bring EC's back to one every 4 hours... or even every 5 hours.
I think there's a direct correlation between number of players online and frequency of ECs.

I've posted before on this and I'll do it again. I fully agree with Keyser, bring it back to every 5 hours. This both makes it more often and makes it change times every day so it's not always at exactly the same time. I assume the only reason this hasn't been done is the cost. If so, just change the payout. Personally I would be happy to see it go to 2 power for the winner 1 for second place, which overall would actually be cheaper for Jed, but generate much more activity.

I think this is an excellent idea. in fact, the winner could be awarded three power and the runner-up one power -- and the game would still be issuing less power per hour than it presently does.

Scheduling EC's every five hours won't really change the number of players online at all. You'll just see a spike in attendance every five hours as opposed to the eight we're experiencing now. Players would just keep track of when the next EC is going to begin and show up for that or stay away as their schedules permit.
What might be more effective is a modification of the idea where there are regularly scheduled EC's then additional EC's that pop up at comletely random times between X and Y times each day. That would at least give people a reason to hang around. While hanging... might as well play, right?

That would at least give people a reason to hang around. While hanging... might as well play, right? Are you saying that it won't change the total number of players online? Such as you might have 16 Players to pop on to play the EC every 8 hours and those same 16 players pop on to play the EC every 5 hours. Even if it's the same players (which it isn't due to time zones and work schedules and school schedules and life and all of that), having 16 players online more often will be great for the game. Even if you don't want to play the EC, but you just want games, or conversation, the best time to pop on is EC time, so that you can have more people on. If more people are on, you are more likely to stay online, talking with friends, playing games, building decks. When you see few players online, you aren't as likely to stay around. Therefore, EC's every 5 hours will have MORE players online MORE often and have those players STAY online LONGER.

...OR... Rather than being Random, have the BONUS EC's happen whenever there are more than 30 players online. --> bonus ec
