Things to consider.....

Person saving up months for a card probably reads forum also, so he knows, the card might get nerfed, so he just waits, and if it really gets nerfed, he just doesn't buy it.. ;)

So.. you've convinced me to grin and bear the nerfing of cards I happened to have in my collection without howling for repaying me the 'lost' gold.

I'm one such guys saving slowly..

What if Panasonic releases a new 72" for $2000? Should they reimburse you? In game terms that would be called power-creep which is very bad for games long-term, but is one way some games attempt to rebalance without changing older cards/units. In some ways it has the same effect as weakening the older card.
Good point (finally something fresh!) Jed can try doing a power creep, and see how it goes.
But with the online thing, and it being an open market, it may devalue GOLD, and as a consequence, make the game more expensive as you get less bang/dollar.

Then alter the timeline.. person saves up money, buys a card, then sees that it will be nerfed on the forum after he bought it. Either way, person is screwed.

Should products be changed AFTER they are bought? Perhaps, but ONLY if the buyer is aware that those products could be changed. This means that there must be a note somewhere saying that products are subject to change at the developers discretion. There is no such note to my knowledge. Once such a note is posted that all buyers see, anything they buy after that note is fair game.

I am not in any way advocating power creep.
Great for technology (TV's), horrible for game play (cards).

Official word from Jed:

Changes in value after this nerf will be handled the same way as last time when they nerfed Syvlan

Hmm...Sorry, but I think he really needs to rethink that if this game is going to continue long-term.

Nighthawk, it's a good policy.

If you buy a product and the product changes, you should be reimbursed for that.

Check the last time it happened. Jed reimbursed the difference in card value after a month, but only up to the amount of money you spent on the game. He didn't just give out free gold.

It's a policy that kept several players around, rather than leaving, as people don't want to spend hard-earned money on something that might be devalued at the "whims" of the developers.

There are literally hundreds of collectible games out there. All of them have changes to rules, etc that affect the value of cards.

So far as I know, this is the only one that makes any attempt to reimburse people.
1. They didn't even buy the cards for that cost from the company in the first place.
2. They need to know values can fluctuate.
3. What happens if something is repeatedly nerfed and buffed over time?
4. Over time, the burden of tracking and calculating the reimbursements is going to get worse and worse until it is completely unfeasable. Better to end it now.

I agree with nighthawk, I don't think it's a good policy at all either.

Jed or the developers NEVER sold any individual cards. If someone bought some of those cards for a large amount of gold from some other player, how is Jed responsible for that? If the card is from a Keep Cards Draft, it's impossible to evaluate how much the person really paid for it. If it's from a pack, the player didn't ever even select the card, nor did he have any reason to assume it would pop up, so why would there be need for reimbursement in this case either?

People who leave because of these kind of things, aren't worth having around, really. They would have left anyway sooner or later. Don't believe me? Just check how active the people who whined for refunds after the last nerfings have been. Pretty much absent.
