This actually happened to me as well, in I think a similar game.

I got lucky in that the other player resigned because they had to go or something.

When the map was revealed, both my starting flux wells were on islands that look pretty much like the one Keyser started on, so I would have been screwed either way haha.

I believe that the official status is that terrain screws even to this extent are not a bug, but I certainly think adding a few more sanity checks to the terrain generator would be an improvement.

Another thought: why not generate symmetric maps? At least then any terrain features affect both players equally.
