My elven scout was next to a silver stag. Three hexes away, outside the range of the stag, was a building. I cast bear strength on the elven scout, and have him attack the building. It did one damage, not 4. I had assumed that the enchantment would work, because it was outside of the silver stag's influence when attacking.
Is that a bug, or the way it works?
What about the reverse? If I cast bear strength on a scout that is outside of the stag's influence, and then have that scout attack the stag, will it do 4 damage or 1?
I believe the stag's check to enable or disable an enchant happens at the end of any action. so your first scenario was working as intended. And your second scenario would be as you said, hitting the stag for 4.

Yeah no stats will change from anything during an action. So dwarf that starts next to a heart of the mountain and attacks something away from the mountain will still have the buf. but dwarf that starts away from the mountain and attacks something near it wont have the buf.
