Im very new to the game. but from my experience ive seen negate is very power. one of my first games my opponent had 3 negates early. at its cheap cost it can so easily provide a huge advantage.

Its similar in my opinion to ascent. those early set backs can be devastating.

But like i said im new so this is just from my early impression.

At least negate gives the flux back, so early in the game a negate will remove an entity for you but you will lose 1 flux. Ascent returns the entity, but you lose the flux. This is more damaging in the early game when the difference between 10 flux played on the board and 7 flux on the board can be insurmountable.

I have to agree with akk. Using negate for early game momentum is foolish. They have a hand full of cards they're usually happy to use instead. The reason to use them is to counter things that suck and you can't do anything about - like entangles.

Using them to deny domain just doesn't work unless your opp has a really poorly constructed deck.

ascent can do some major havoc, however. if I drop a buff and it immediately gets ascented, that's a card, flux, and momentum I'm out.

I think thats an unfair assumption.

Ive been playing strategy card games for years. Ideally you have a balanced opening hand (or luckily the perfect hand). And that means you dont want extras sitting around that you cant use. negate can easily remove a key part of that balance and wreck your opening strategy.

Not being able to recover doesnt entirely speak for your deck design. That also has to do with luck of the draw and what your opponent is doing.

Doiron was indirectly referring to the auto-draw system. If you lose the only domain building in your hand, you will very likely draw one next turn. His point was that you should have enough domain/base buildings in your deck to be able to survive your opponent knocking a couple out.

Could negate be limited to affect only entities that were cast on that turn? It would still be very powerful and versatile, but I think it may be just too much that it works on e.g. builgings completed with hill giant contractors. I suppose it removes respawned phoenixes and stalking spirits too? Never tried. I maybe be a bit biased about contractors though, as I just got it and was disappointed that it's unplayable when there's any chance that the opponent can negate the building.

...or when you morph your small creature into a nasty big one and they cast negate... and you lose the new creature AND the small creature doesn't come back...

I was actually wondering about. Was going to play test and see if you got the flux from the morph or from the morphed creature, but you answered that for me :-)
