While I don't feel that NP is overpowered, there isn't really any way to come back from you opponent having 2 NPs at the start of the game.

In the EC match I just played, my opponent played 2 NP's and a Gather Spirit, allowing him to cast a volcanic phoenix and tortured ghost by Round 6, even after having to Lysis a Dimwitted Manticore.

By Round 7, he also had a Yalnarian Fiend in play.

What possible ways can you all come up with to counter something? Every counter I can think of is not likely to pull off by Round 7 .. Soul Plague? Earthquake?... and Soul Plague wouldn't hurt too much with his nightmares in play...

On the other side...I do find np's op'd...

There is way too much synergy with the card...

First you get the Flux...
Then you get the Domain...
Then you get the Wells...
Then you get Power...
Then you get the Women...lol

I can already see the arguements and the comments of 'why is when something is strong, everyone wants it nerfed', but my question is why is it so wrong to fix something?

My problem with it is the exorbinent amount of combos with it. I can't think of any other card that has so many uses.

Let's start listing them...Everybody join in...See if you can name another card with so many uses...

np/ix...np/crypt doctor...np/carrion feeder...after ix...np/claimed by blood...np/nefarious research...np/nightmares...np/lord of chaos...I'm sure there are more but let's move on to non-dl domains.

np/mind transplant...np/essense conduit...np/sabatuer...np/benifits of numbers...np/benifits of wisdom...np/knight of celador...np/lychantropy...np/brigand of righteous...np/living monument...np/gaze of the tyrant...np/offending musk...np/seat of essense...np/vessel of cathil...np/form of vigor...I'm stopping there.

Also...need some blockers...np...need some scouts...send out 3 nps...Yes there are other creatures that these cards would work with but getting 3 of them for the cost of 3 flux makes them very good for some of these. Again name another creature with such versatility.

A well-timed Dispel Flux is a good counter for NPs and Gather Spirits... Been on the wrong end of that enough times to know. (thanks queeshai!)

going alphabetically for the DL ones you missed: black plague, corrupting flux, death mark, demonic surge, fear, grave summoning, subject of loathing.

indeed, dispel can be a very good counter. on the other hand, keeping one np out by ix is the best counter to dispel flux. some DL players actually use dispel flux this way. incidentally, I think dispel flux is perhaps another example of an OP card. I guess I'll move that thought to mist's thread.

for the record, I agree with Themist that NP is very OP. (I'd rank it right behind orb, trade routes, and nightmares.) if we assume that gather spirits is a good card (and I note that it is as common to DL as thistle falcon is to sylvan) ... then ... for one additional domain, one gets everything Themist described above. you are *making* corpses, not destroying them. and that extra domain is effectively free because there is no incentive to play one domain DL. even at three DL, NP would be an OP card, in my opinion.

but honestly ... the NP debate has been ongoing in the 6+ months I've been here. I have no idea why nothing has been done about it, but I have long stopped expecting anything to be done about it.

errr, I must disagree with my PR brother here.

NP is useful all the time in gazillions of ways.

Orb of Cool Beans absolutely MUST have specific cards to make it dangerous! And, as mentioned by others, it is susceptible to rushes. A final point, which card is the best for getting one to 3 domain so that the Frijoles of Grooviness can even be cast?? Yeppers, NP strikes again... and again... :o and again... :?

Out,

Gelatinous one of taco-ness

I may be much mistaken, but doesn't nether plasma say "cannot attack"?Although if you put deathmark meaning it makes 3 corpses for other creatures with death mark to see, I'll agree there ;).

I must disagree with my tacofied carnal. Although NP is undeniably good at getting 3 domain for the aforementioned frijoles, I would say Trade routes is better. Same flux cost (I believe) and autodraw. Check, and mate 8-)

My personal favourite is a Mis-Scribed Circle before it splits.

noob_mexican:

I concede that Trade Routes might be better at domain acceleration, but that is the ONLY thing it does. The NP is good at that and a gazillion other things, which is my main point. So uncheck and unmate. ;)

Good day,

Neat, a thread about losing to me. =P We need more of these.

Well,I don't remember the whole game, but what caused you problems was basically that I had an unusually good draw and you didn't put enough pressure on my base. Against a lot of decks in ec, I can barely keep an ix on the board let alone pump out 3-domain dudes at my leisure. But aside from the manticore, you opted to put up construct instead which gave me a lot of freedom.

So yeah... NP is definitely one of the most useful cards, but it's not like anybody can just throw 3 of them in a deck and win any time they want.
