I had a zombie that my opponent (themist) cast horns to hide on. The Zombie became a 0/6.

I cast demonic surge on the zombie with 6 flux. My assumption was that I needed 6 flux in order to do 5 damage, because: 1 (original attack) minus 2 (from horns to hide) + 6 (surge) = 5.

However, after surging for 6, the zombie had 6 attack.

Is this correct? Should the zombie have had 6 attack or 5 attack?

It is correct.
Attack of creature can't go under 0..
so 1/1 creature which were Horns to Hide casted on is now 0/5.. if then gets +1 attack from anything it's 1/5

Yeah Zurken's got the gist of it. Its a programming quirk, an attack in the negative ie. -1 was healing the attacked entity. And cards are sequential, so... thats how it is.
Only current health can go negative, other stats should never go into negative (its a bug if they do).
