I'm all for abusing the system until it gets so bad that it has to change...but tonight was interesting. I played against two players in domain keep who both had lots of Red Imps in their deck (6-8). NASTY. So if you get lucky off the initial draw, and lucky buying a few extra packs, I suppose you deserve this crazy combo... but should there be a maximum cap in limited play to nerf this a bit? For example, you can't play with more than 6 of a given card? Not sure how else to handle this... as I'm sure you don't want to fiddle with the way cards are "drawn" in the packs...
Any ideas? Is this a problem? Or should players be theoretically allowed to play with 10+ Red Imps if they're lucky enough to draw them?

My current domain deck has 8 flame ents, I drew 10 of them. And there's still a pack left. It's by no means a slam dunk, however. The imp decks are trouble, as are the MF building decks. It is fun to see an endless stream of ents, I have to admit.
But to the issue, I too think it's a bit silly. But it's more a problem of the random number generator that the game uses than anything. It's so prone to streaks that you wind up with situations like 10 flame ents from 5 packs. And Keep Cards with 2-3 of the same rare, which should be an almost statistical impossibility - 3 the same, at least - but happens very frequently. (choose 12 rares out of 79)
that said, I think limiting to 5 or 6 of each card is quite reasonable. despite the joy of a 1/4 flame ent deck. the problem is that you might get someone who can't construct a viable deck, which would be the above paragraph's problem, in my mind.

I think if this happened it should only be for sealed, if someone drafts 6 Red Imps then they should be able to play all of them.

Sure, for draft I wouldn't care either. If you can draft it, you can play it. I agree that a max of 5 in sealed is probably a good number... 6 is probably too generous.

Ah, so that's why my decks tend to have a lot of the same card in a row.. the random number generator is off?

Quote: the problem is that you might get someone who can't construct a viable deck Hah. I had this happen to me the very first time I played in the domain keep league waaay back when. I played ele and drew only 10 creatures, a few of which were duplicates... and 8 out of the 10 were AQUATIC. Couldn't compete at all. At least that incident was back in the beta phase though... I'd hate to see someone buy some gold to join a domain keep league and have that happen to them.

As someone currently running an 8 imp deck, I can tell you it is far from broken. It is true that I can often swarm people with a pile of imps, but the fact that I drew so many imps means I am missing other cards. In my case, I have 0 lysis. Those imps can get mowed down pretty fast if my opponent gets out a big creature, and I have lost quite a few games in the current domain that way.

I wouldn't mind about drawing 6 same creatures.. you still can play with that... in current domain I've chosen ele.. And got 6 Heat Waves! And 8 creatures total - from which 3 are Flamekins.. no chance to play this unless I will be lucky in boosters.. (and believe me, it IS competitively uplayable..)

Well I think the real solution is making the packs more balanced. We will look into that after Borderlands is out.

I don't think playing Elementals is the best idea when you join a league. The first league I played in I chose Elementals and I was surprised by how shallow the playable creatures are in it. It has some of the best spells, but you really need decent creatures to win games. I really hope Borderlands gives Elementals some good creatures.
