Sooty this is how it is now. The purposed change doesn't effect either scenario.

I guess a deck that wants to start with Hall of Justice --> Vapor Mahal isn't hurt that bad, since it's relatively safe to have only 1 mahal in the new system, and packing 2 or 3 halls would give the hall in hand for start at 66% or 75% chance respectively.

Vapor Mahal and Hall of Justice are both bases. Maybe you mean you weren't playing Basics at all? I think calling the new building Base Building would be a bad idea due to the confusion but that's easily fixed (Really, I don't like the idea at all though.).

So, with the current autodraw you get Vapor Mahal right away, then draw the next card(s) randomly. If you get one that requires CI domain, you then autodraw the Hall of Justice.

As I understand the proposal here, you start by putting a Base Building into your hand then proceed from there. Since you already have a building that can cover any domain and acts as a base, nothing autodraws.

Okay, fine, but were these consequences, regardless of which version of the game they actually came to be, intentionally implemented? What's the point of autodraw - to allow players to seamlessly play cards by providing the domain they need when they need it, or to provide an additional avenue of strategizing and planning?

I have no idea what your intention for autodraw is is, and it's fine by me if you think you want to keep all the baggage that has been present in the previous few iterations, I can understand how it works with time. But speaking as a relatively new player, it is really one of the things that really turns me off, although I'm obviously still here. To me it obscures deckbuilding. It adds complexity sure, but I think it adds unecessary complexity. And that's what I consider to be the real problem with autodraw now. And it isn't the problem being solved with the new autodraw. That much is obvious with your reply ;)

Sooty: The intent of Autodraw is to allow you to build a deck with out worrying about putting the right amount of domain buildings in. And to prevent things like getting too many or too little domain cards if they were just random like other cards in your deck.

You really don't think the new way is more clear? Maybe I'm just not explaining it very well. Well I should have a test of it up tomorrow so people can try it in practice and see what they think.

An alternate solution that could fix a lot of the problems. Before drawing--

1) Check player's current domain level, and see if they are able to cast everything in hand. If no, proceed to 2.
2) Autodraw a domain card FROM THEIR DECK. If no card is available, proceed to 3.
3) Roll for chance to draw basic domain building OUTSIDE THEIR DECK. I would make it a 25-50% chance (maybe 1/3rd). If they fail to draw a domain card, a card is drawn from their deck as normal.

This would force players to put domain buildings in their decks, just like they had to before the autodraw change, and maintain most of the mechanics that people are already accustomed to. It would also reduce the effectiveness of anti-building decks, which was one of the big reasons for this change to begin with.

First post, for me here.

Jed: Just wanted to say that I've been playing for free for a while, and because I've seen how you guys keep developing stuff in contact with the community I decided to start coughing up some money :P Great work with the game!

The Base Building + Fated idea seems fine to me - easy to understand. I like it a lot. Only thing that bugs me is that the feeling of holding a nice domain card with a nice image on it kind of disappears. And somehow I'd prefer not to be offered the choice to build Graveyards when I'm playing 100% Sylvan. It's a small step away from that card game feeling you've recreated so well.

Another idea: How about letting the player trade any card in hand for the basic domain card of their choice in their deck. Send the traded card to the bottom of the deck, I suppose. And keep the Fated idea as well.

I like the idea of the Base building and Fated cards. I would suggest using them and discarding Autodraw. Instead have an option to draw a base or fated card rather than the top card in your deck.

Is this the way Auto draw is supposed to be working??

Last night, I played against CaveTroll in the EC. He had a vicious deck using Benefits of a Clear mind and quick building spam. He got to two wells and fewer cards in hand than me extremely fast, thereby gaining 3 glory per turn.

I managed to pull off more wells, and a cull of the weak to kill his bothersome critters, and turn his 19-0 Glory lead into a stall, and built my way out to 14 glory.

He got a mosslight flyer out, and destroyed my third site, winning the game.

I had no cards in hand at the end of each round, hoping against hope to draw a building to play before he killed that third site. The building never came.

Shouldn't I have drawn a basic Magma chamber??

no you will only draw a basic building if a card in your hand needs it. If you have no cards in hand it will just draw the top of your deck.
