Rarity needs to statistically "correlate" to card strength for the sake of any CCG's survival. If all the best cards were common, and easily accessible, no one would need to invest that much into the game to have a good/great deck. Sure, some commons are great, but if awesome rares didn't exist, the financial structure of incentives for additional investment that fuels any CCG would collapse.
And that's just the way it is...

I never look at rarity and never will. Thats a sucky excuse.
Interesting... do you not play other CCGs? That's the way they work. Rare cards are generally better than uncommons are generally better than commons. There are some really sucky rares, some really great commons... all planned out to help balance the game.
No, commons shouldnt be accepted as weaker. In fact, how can a game really become popular if its not available to the populous? I mean, games should still be affordable. How is it even fun if in this situation for a new player with a common deck to go up against a veteran player with a 30 dollar deck? That sounds shitty to me. So what are the purpose of rares now? To make people buy packs. But people would do that anyways because: they become collectors, because obviously some rares are still going to be good, because they can still get the commons/uncommons they need and they will need more because theres going to be a lot more deck variety going on with the extra commons they have from packs, because they enjoy the game so they keep playing the game so they still buy packs over time.
You also cant take into consideration cards no one buys anyways. Obviously theres a reason. For instance.. I still probably wouldnt use mis-scribed circle if it cost 0 because Id rather have the card space for something else. Or Force Fence which is nearly un-usable now that you cant use it as easily with naturescape since the Hadarcks Throne change. You can buy force fence (a rare) right now from market for 35 gold.. It seems people are using commons instead of force fence anyways. Being that force fence is probably one of the cheapest rares, I highly doubt in the scenario above that many rares would cost less than that, and even then it would probably be offset by the price of commons.
Yes I have seen many expensive MTG commons.
There might be a slightly less profit margin but I dont think its near as big as your making it out to be. As far as The Far Wilds gos. How many people have a complete set of TFW cards? How many people have a complete set of TFW commons? Probably none and not many.
Anyways, whats important about people isnt what they can give you.
