That's not necessarily a good thing, though... since your creature is dimmed, anyway, your opponent can build there as well and it's relatively safe. The same scenario with a gaze requires you to have a 2 vision building to overcome it, in addition to it being suceptible to attack from the enchanted creature.

After a slightly heated discussion in the lobby. I now agree that Homestead is not all that bad. At times, it still is inferior to Gaze of the Tyrant but it has it's own situations where it's far superior.

Two general ideas about balancing:

(i) As CaveTroll has emphasized a number of times, I think it is a good idea that balancing of individual cards should be done slowly. If nerfing or boosting a card is deemed to be necessary, maybe it should be done progressively over time so that a card just don't instantaneously go from being OPed to being more or less useless, or vice versa. So for instance, let a card under review have a 'provisional' status and make sure that this status is written on the card.

(ii) The welcome screen mentions Ladder, Referral system and something else that I can't remember at the moment. Why not have the cards with 'provsional' status also show up there? This would indicate to all players in a clear fashion what cards are under balancing. This would make it easier for someone who would like to purchase/sell/trade cards of this kind (instead of checking the forum all the time).

EDIT: Just saw this passage from one of jed's posts here

As is probably clear from what I say above, I take the opposite stance when it comes to balancing cards. Slow and gradual balancing of individual cards is what I prefer as I think this makes for a much smoother gameplay, a less risky way of altering cards and an altogether more transparant process. I can see that this is not ideal from a dev's perspective since there is likely to always be some balancing going on (which is probably very time consuming), but I think there are more pros than cons for a gradual approach.

Jed,
Please consider nerfing by data rather than only player perception. (see this thread.)

Also,
Please consider upping Twinling. Perhaps modify it so that it costs more flux and that one Twinling is destroyed only if the other Twinling is. At the end of the round, the health of all Twinlings are set to the highest health of any Twinling in play.

I agree with Keyser's twinling idea. Sylvan needs a reason to go 3 domain, and that may just be enough for it to happen.

No, how would that work?

Drop homestead on a creature, drop building, move stagg adjacent to creature (preferably aloft or fast creature), run mr.homestead to another well, drop building, etc.

Animate boulder could become playable with one more vision and if every map had a mountain on it.

Observatory... give it vision. Heck, get rid of the ability, just give it it's own vision and it will be much better. CI needs a decent 2nd domain source.

A lot of these cards people are mentioning don't see much play in constructed, but I do see several of them quite a bit in free sealed. In constructed, people usually use only the best cards anyways. There is a use for a lot of these in sealed/drafts though.

I'm against buffing a lot of cards, even if they're rarely used, because I already think the cards and combos in this game are too strong to the point that it takes away from some of the map tactics. Too many strong spells/enchants imho.

PS - I did like queeshai's idea for Decomposition of putting a decay token on corpses.
