Krak, I don't know if you were talking about me in your original post, but in case you were I want to clear the air...

When I sign in to thefarwilds the very first thing I do is put my name in the domain cue. I wait (and wait, and wait) until someone else joins the cue and we play a game, regardless who it is. I've never once left the cue because a good player signed on. (I have however been witness to this). I mostly end up playing newer players simply because the other high rated players are always "busy". Honestly I'd rather not but that's the system.

I will admit: I love nothing more than catching an opponent who wanted to play someone else but ended up playing me cause i'd been waiting in the cue first. You're not supposed to be able to select your opponents... It's supposed to be random like in every other game system. It just happens to not be since the community is so small.

It is becoming too difficult for me to find games lately, as many people are unashamed of refusing to play me because they think they will lose. Since I dont have as much time as I did before i know that it will be too difficult for me to play all the games in Domain. So for now Im taking a break. Probably will come back for Domain later to see if things has improved. Being too focused on winning gold can kill this game, but lets hope it wont or that people will start playing for fun and not just for gold.

That's easy for you to say, you've probably amassed a ton of gold over the months/years and have quite a sizable collection therefore being able to create most any fun deck you want. The majority of us, however, need to work on getting our gold... so we can build more decks... so we can play for fun.

Just like in real life... the wealthy can afford to pay for the country club and sit around all day doing nothing and paying ten times the retail price for a can of soda... the common man, he'll take every extra cent he can get his hands on and will buy their soda at a discount if they could.

To further complicate matters, the removal of Power has increased the value of gold. In my case, for instance... In the past, I'd buy cards I need off the market even though I knew I'd get them eventually from packs (commons and low-value uncommons)... It didn't really matter, I could easily get back what I'd spent with a bit of Power. Yesterday, I seriously had major reservations about buying a bunch of 5g uncommons!!! Why? They were low-valued uncommons for a reason... they suck. I'm not going to see that gold ever again and I'll probably draw 72 of them from packs myself. They were just for a fun deck I knew from the onset would be a major failure... but fun.

The actual value of gold is still $0.02, however, their in-game value has substantially multiplied. In the past, it was regulated and balanced by power where Joe could win a bunch of EC's and get his Awaken The Stones for 50 power in Domain League while Charles paid $1,000 in packs and didn't get a single one.

I do understand and sympatize with what u are saying, but I still think refusing to play players u consider better than u will kill this game. When that is said, Ive never considered you (Atahulpa) to be one of those.

I think it's important never to try to fix an issue with the game by introducing "moral standards" to try to stop people from playing the game "the wrong/boring way". At least that's my experience from playing online Blood Bowl: that kind of fingerpointing will simply never stop, and never solve the original problem. Nor will there ever be a consensus about what sportsmanship is.

If the rules makes it beneficial to play in a way that's boring or bad for the community or problematic in some other way, change the rules. A good game steers people towards playing in a way that make them have fun. TFW is already good at this in general.

In this case: reward playing vs people like Cavetroll. It's very doable.

Another situation.

So I'm sitting in the lobby, no intentions whatsoever of playing domain. I had blown Queeshai off a few hours earlier because... well, you know...

Anyway.

Queeshai asks for a game. At this point, I'm too embarassed to blow him off again and say, what the heck, might as well, but only one. I'll probably lose and have to admit, more than half of my domain games this month I just resigned as soon as things started to get bad. I just don't care enough to waste my efforts trying to win.

So, I give Queeshai a game... then, what do I notice in the lobby... He's like 1 point below Baron_Voices. With the league ending in a few short hours, all of a sudden it's likely that the decision of who wins top prize falls to me... Who should I screw? BV or Queesh? Hmmmm... Regardless, I can't say I cared either way. I was way to embarassed already (note: this was before Hoar's post), so I played.

Bottom line... if I had wanted BV to win the prize, then all I have to do is avoid Queesh, if I had wanted Queesh to win, then all I had to do was play him twice. So... people also play/avoid domain games to favor their friends :)

That is all.

Hey man, dont think you were losing any sleep over this, but I'm definiately not one to be so hardcore over an online game. Situations like these can be kind of annoying, but hey - that's the internet.

I know queeshai got rather angry at me for queue dodging last domain, but all I can say in my defense is that playing at work, I don't have the luxury to choose when (and subsequently who) I play. But I accept that queue dodging is part of the metagame as long as we can see who's in the domain lobby. I think I'm more likely to avoid a deck I've seen than a player... but then usually my hubris gets the best of me and I want to see my deck win over them.

Oh, and Baron_Voices is me playing Domain with Voices' money =) I think we started the trend or maybe just missed anyone ever doing it before, but he wanted the cards and I wanted to play - so we split the pot 50/50 so that's my incentive. Only way to get gold now is to have a benefactor ;)
