I'll refrain from the broader political commentary... Zavia helped me to treat my "troll itch" a couple weeks ago (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=985&start=10).

Anyways, in every online game I've ever played, there are always people who ask for (or sometimes demand) handouts. As a matter of principle, I don't give them anything of significant value. People just don't appreciate what they have if they don't work for it. This is true in life, and in games. HOWEVER, I am a limitless source of free advice, and I'll occasionally offer deck suggestions if I'm bored... people just have to ask nicely and I'll generally help them. Theoretically, my feedback could produce more wins, gold, power, etc.

In other games, I would offer to teach people asking for free stuff how to make money... say, by fishing or something... and if they survived my thorough tutorial, I'd give them their first cheap fishing pole and some bait, which cost almost nothing... in virtual currency to boot. Sadly, most people angrily stormed off when I wanted to "teach them to fish" instead of "giving them fish".

That said, this is not an MMO. TFW has a very different financial structure. In MMOs, you generally pay a monthly free, and can earn limitless items/virtual currency within the game world. The game profits by charging you to play. In TFW, we play for free, but the game "items" and currency are directly correlated to REAL currency. Thus, people aren't actually asking for virtual handouts, they're asking for REAL monetary handouts. Sticking to my original principles in this environment, I don't give away even small items. I have been generous in my trades from time to time... but I'll never "give" anything away.

Random additional thought-- One could argue that any form of "work" whether it is in a virtual world or not has monetary value... so why give your work away for free? ...but for the purposes of this thread I think I'll avoid venturing further down that line of thinking.

I don't really have much to say to him other than "lol" and "congrats" on finding someone to give you a handout. My only question to you is the one that has been unanswered for some time now: Do you give stuff away to others? Or do you just expect others to give stuff to you?

Well, I don't mind choosing one of the options. I cast my vote for "F". You might notice that "F" was not one of the choices Mr. Wrath presented. But in my mind "F" really is the correct answer. ;) I bet that a majority just might agree with me as well. Only time will tell. Have a great day voters! 8-) I sure hope nobody buses in a bunch homeless people that have been paid to vote a particular way.

Whoa, hold it. You've worked hard to acquire that knowledge. Why give it away for free? I mean, if other people don't work for their knowledge, and just get if for free from you, would they be able to appreciate it?

I think that, as a matter of principle, you shouldn't give away advice unless you're paid for it. Anything else just reeks of socialism.

..except that his advice seems to be telling peopel HOW to do something, meaning that they still have to work for the results.

And it's true: if you work for something, you appreciate it more than if you get it for free.

I am trying to understand your statement here, but it is as clear as mud. How does Sunyaku giving away inexpensive stuff while refusing to give away valuable items for little or nothing result in a "significant loss" for him? How would most people get to work if they gave away their car for a banana? Hopefully I just misunderstood your point, otherwise that is some twisted and fallacious logic.

Sarcasm duly noted. It appears that Sunyaku IS willing to help his fellow man without always making a profit, but he has drawn a line in the sand. He could be careless and irresponsible, work very hard, and then just give away the fruits of HIS labors to the relaxers that abound... Why don't they just work hard? It sounds like Sunyaku is willing to teach people to fish. He just won't fish for them AND himself! They can choose to listen to his advice or not, it is 100% their call. But they are still going to actually have to DO something besides resting to get ahead. Personal resposiblity and accountability come to mind. :geek:

Not really. Give me something i value which I can never get, and I'll value it equally as if I worked for it. Hell, some of the free things(or services) granted onto me has been taken care more than some of the things I own.
Not everyone values free stuff equally you know. Some discard free stuff and see it as worthless, others will cherish it(and hopefully the person). Someone recently promised me a Lysis if he wins the ladder. I would definately be happy at being given something for free, just cos. Like, you know, birthday present coming early? In fact, if he gives me said Lysis, I would naturally feel obligated to give something back at some other time of equal or higher value. Twas an unexpected gesture. Havn't any of you people ever get a present you abosolutely love/adore/want/[positive feeling] that someone gave you, for free, no obligations or strings attached?

And getting back to the op's multiple post (i tot theres some rule againts triple posting?)
I think the dude KNEW you couldn't do much with that 12 cards, hence he tried asking for more. He was probably thinking power was something you need and can atcually use more of, compared to the other cards.
Of course, each card has its own value, but, imo, selling of 9 of em would take quite a while. If you converted ALL of them into power(via selling/trading/buying) at -15% discount(to speed things up), you could probably get even more cards earlier, win more things easier(theoradically) and be more "valueble" as compared to waiting to sell all those 9 cards. By the time you could have sold those 9 cards, you could have alternatively played more games and with stronger cards. It would possibly be a more efficient use of time and resource.
